Whitenack, Willard & Hicks Land On Skyline Weekly Honor Rolls

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 11, 2017) – The Skyline Conference announced late on Monday that three USMMA student-athletes were selected to their respective sports' weekly honor rolls for their performances in the week ending April 9 – senior Chris Whitenack (East Meadow, N.Y.) for men's lacrosse, sophomore Meredith Willard (Portland, Maine) for women's lacrosse and senior James Hicks (Haddon Heights, N.J.) for men's tennis.
 
Whitenack won 44-of-51 faceoffs in the Mariners' two Skyline victories over St. Joseph's-L.I. (20-10) at home on Tuesday and Farmingdale State (18-13) on the road on Saturday. He also collected an incredible 38 groundballs in the two games, including a career-high 23 on Saturday. In the road win over the Rams, the senior scored three goals and added one assists and he also found the back of the net once on Tuesday night. Whitenack and the rest of the Mariners host Stockton for a Skyline matchup on Wednesday night, April 12, at 7:30 p.m. at Brooks Stadium. Willard recorded seven points in Merchant Marine's 15-3 road victory over rival SUNY Maritime on Wednesday night in the annual Sound Shootout. She scored five times and added two assists and with the seven points, she reached the 100-career point plateau (77 goals and 23 assists) in just 19 games played. The Mariners are back in action on Thursday night, April 13, when they host Skyline opponent Farmingdale State at 7:30 p.m. at Brooks Stadium. Hicks put up a 3-1 record from the doubles and singles top spot over two Skyline matches last week, including a 2-0 mark in singles action. He went 1-1 in a 5-4 road loss at Purchase on Wednesday and then won both his doubles and singles matchups on Saturday while celebrating Senior Day with a 7-2 home win over Farmingdale State. The Skyline tennis match the Mariners were scheduled to host on Wednesday, April 12, against Sarah Lawrence has been postponed. A make-up date has yet to be announced. As of right now, the Mariners are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, April 18, in a home Skyline match against St. Joseph's-Brooklyn at 4 p.m. at the Brooks Stadium Courts.
