Last Week’s Skyline Weekly Award Winners (Week Ending March 10)

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (March 18, 2019) – Last Monday, the Skyline Conference announced the weekly award winners for the week ending March 10. Junior Liam Connors (Bellmore, N.Y.) was named the Skyline Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week, freshman Maddie Schmidt (Mechanicsville, Va.) earned Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week honors and classmate Garrett Aichele (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) was selected as the Baseball Rookie of the Week. 

Additionally, seniors Meredith Willard (Portland, Maine) of women's lacrosse and John Kelly Jr. (Apex, N.C.) of baseball earned spots on their respective sports' weekly honor rolls. 

Connors earned his second-consecutive Player of the Week accolade for men's lacrosse. He registered a nine-point afternoon (seven goals, two assists) on Wednesday, March 6, in a neutral-site win against Southern Virginia and then added five points (two goals, three assists) and four ground balls on Sunday, March 10, in the Mariners' home-opening win over Western Connecticut State.

Schmidt picked up seven points (five goals, two assists), six draw controls and five ground balls in her first week of collegiate lacrosse during the Mariners' Spring Break trip to Florida. She collected a hat trick and two assists with three ground balls on Monday, March 4, in a win over Otterbein and then added two goals, four draw controls and two ground balls two days later in a victory over King's (Pa.). 

Willard had a 13-point week (nine goals, four assists) in helping the defending-champion Mariners to their 2-0 start in the Sunshine State.

Aichele went 6-for-16 (.375) at the dish with a triple, RBI, two stolen bases and five runs scored over seven games for the Mariners during their Spring Break trip down in Florida. He earned a victory on the hill against Saint John's (Minn.) with five innings of three-run (one earned), three-hit, four-strikeout ball. 

Kelly, Jr. earned a win and a save for the Mariners over 7.2 innings pitched -- allowing two earned runs, eight hits and striking out seven.
