• Mariners Open NEWMAC Action With 56-31 Road Victory At Maine Maritime

    For the second time in three games, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy football team put up 56 points, as the Mariners defeated Maine Maritime, 56-31, on Saturday at the (Maine Maritime) Mariners’ Ritchie Field in the first league game in the newly-formed NEWMAC football conference. With the victory, the (USMMA) Mariners improve to 2-1 (1-0 NEWMAC), while Maine Maritime falls to 0-3 (0-1 NEWMAC) in defeat.
  • Mariner Women Place Second At Bard Invite

    The USMMA women’s cross country team came in second place at the Bard Raptors Invitational on Saturday in a race filled with tough Skyline Conference opponents. The Mariners (69 points) came in just one point behind invite-winner St. Joseph’s of Long Island and finished ahead of 2016 Skyline Champion Farmingdale State (third, 78 points).
  • Men’s Cross Country’s Six Freshmen Come In Seventh At Bard Invitational

    On Saturday, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s cross country team sent six freshmen runners to compete at the Bard Raptors Invitational on the campus of Bard College. The Mariners came in seventh place out of the field of 20 teams with a total of 183 points.
  • Mariners’ Rally Falls Short In Five-Set Thriller Against Coast Guard

    The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women’s volleyball team suffered a tough five-set loss to arch-rival Coast Guard on Thursday night in a packed Liebertz Gymnasium. The defeat drops the Mariners’ record to 6-3 on the season, while the Bears improve to 9-3 with the victory.
  • First-Place Finish Earns MacElrevey Skyline And ECAC Runner Of The Week Honors

    U.S. Merchant Marine Academy senior Austin MacElrevey’s (Lewes, Del.) first-place finish this past Sunday at the Queensborough Invitational has earned him multiple Runner of the Week accolades, as the Skyline Conference announced he was its honoree on Monday and then today the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) tabbed him as its DIII Metro Runner of the Week. This is the second-straight week that the senior co-captain was honored by the Skyline, as he was named to the weekly honor roll last week.
  • Lewis Lands On Skyline Women’s Cross Country Weekly Honor Roll

    Earlier this week, the Skyline Conference announced the weekly honors for women’s cross country and USMMA sophomore Anna Lewis (Lakehead, Calif.) earned a spot on the weekly honor roll. This comes after Lewis’ performance in leading the Mariners to a third-place team finish this past Sunday at the Queensborough Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. 
  • Lefler Earns Skyline Women’s Volleyball Player Of The Week Honor

    USMMA junior Kate Lefler (Norman, Okla.) has been honored by the Skyline Conference for the second straight week, as this time around she was named the Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week. The accolade comes after Lefler’s performances in the Mariners’ three matches this past weekend at the Maritime Classic, hosted by Maine Maritime up in Castine, Maine.
  • 10 New Members Inducted Into USMMA Athletics Hall Of Fame Friday Night

    This past Friday night, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Athletics Department inducted 10 new members into its Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony was held in conjunction with the Academy’s and the USMMA Alumni Association and Foundation’s (AAF) Homecoming celebration this weekend. The Alumni Association and Foundation hosted the event in Melville Hall on campus here in Kings Point.
  • Mariner Men Win Queensborough Invite; MacElrevey Is Individual Champion Again

    The USMMA men’s cross country team came in first place at the Queensborough Invitational on Sunday morning at Van Cortlandt Park and senior Austin MacElrevey (Lewes, Del.) won his second straight race to lead the Mariners. The squad scored 84 points, a full 64 points ahead of second place Monroe College (148). Suffolk Community College came in third with 152 points and Merchant Marine's fellow Skyline Conference opponent SUNY Maritime was the second place DIII team, as they placed fourth overall with 202 points.
  • Volleyball Falls To Maine Maritime, Finishes Maritime Classic In Second; Lefler & Kappas Named To All-Tourney Team

    The USMMA women’s volleyball team concluded action at the Eighth Annual Maritime Classic on Sunday up at Maine Maritime. The Mariners lost to the host Maine Maritime Mariners in four sets (25-22, 25-18, 19-25, 25-22) and fall to 6-2 on the season, while Maine Maritime improves to 7-5.
  • Women’s XC Places Third At Queensborough Invite

    The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women’s cross country team competed in the Queensborough Invitational on Sunday at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. The Mariners came in third place with a team score of 133, behind first-place Hunter College (55) and second-place JUCO school Monroe College (69).
  • Mariners Drop Homecoming Game To SUNY Maritime, 38-31

    On Saturday, the USMMA football team hosted rival SUNY Maritime at Brooks Stadium for Homecoming and Hall of Fame Weekend festivities. After the Mariners jumped out to a 14-0 lead early, the Privateers answered back in the second and the two teams ended up knotted up at 24-24 at halftime. Merchant Marine jumped ahead early in the second half and led 31-24 after the third, however Maritime scored two touchdowns in the fourth, including the go-ahead TD with just 1:09 to play, to claim the victory.
  • Gaiser To Serve On NCAA Regional Advisory Committee & Vote In AVCA Coaches Top 25 Poll

    USMMA women’s volleyball second-year head coach Tim Gaiser is keeping himself busy off of the sidelines, as he recently agreed to serve on the NCAA Division III women’s volleyball regional advisory committee and will also be a voting member of the American Volleyball Coaches Associate (AVCA) Division III Coaches Top 25 Poll.
  • MacElrevey’s Individual Win Earns Him A Skyline Weekly Honor Roll Nod

    USMMA senior co-captain Austin MacElrevey (Lewes, Del.) was selected to the Skyline Conference weekly honor roll for men’s cross country, the league announced on Monday. The honor comes after MaElrevey helped lead the Mariners to a third-place showing at the Trinity College Invitational this past Saturday up in Connecticut.
  • Lefler Lands On Skyline Women’s Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll

    The Skyline Conference announced its weekly honors for women’s volleyball earlier this week and USMMA junior Kate Lefler (Norman, Okla.) earned a spot on the weekly honor roll. The accolade comes after the middle hitter helped lead the Mariners to a 2-1 week with a 3-0 home win over Yeshiva last Tuesday night, a tough 3-0 road loss at Manhattanville last Wednesday and a 3-0 road victory over William Paterson this past Saturday.
  • Mariner Men Come In Fifth At Baruch Invitational On Sunday

    On Sunday, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s cross country team sent seven men up to Van Cortlandt Park to compete in the Baruch College Invitational. The Mariners came in fifth place out of eight teams that competed with 92 points. The City College of New York won the event with 51 points and Baruch (second with 65 points) and Yeshiva (third with 67 points) rounded out the top three.

    The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women’s volleyball team swept William Paterson, 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-20), on Saturday afternoon at the Pioneers’ Recreation Center. In victory, the Mariners improve to 4-1, while WPU falls to 3-1 in defeat.
  • MacElrevey Wins 5K Race As Mariners Finish Third At Trinity Invite

    The USMMA men’s cross country team opened the 2017 season on Saturday at the Trinity College Invite at Wickham Park in Connecticut, not far from the Trinity campus. The Mariner men finished in third place at the event with 98 points, just behind arch-rival Coast Guard, which came in second with 50 points, and hosts Trinity, which won the Invite with 25 points.
  • Women’s Cross Country Finishes Sixth At Trinity’s Bantam Invite

    On Saturday, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women’s cross country team opened the 2017 season with a sixth-place showing at Trinity College’s Bantam Invitational at Wickham Park in Connecticut. The Mariners recorded 181 points at the event, while hosts Trinity scored 29 to win the Invite.

    On Wednesday night, the USMMA women’s volleyball team lost on the road, 3-0, up at Manhattanville College (25-19, 26-24, 25-20). The loss was the Mariners’ first of the year and dropped their record to 3-1, while the Valiants improved to 3-1.

    The Skyline Conference announced its weekly award winners for women’s volleyball on Tuesday and USMMA sophomore Kyleigh Kappas (Parker, Colo.) was honored as the league’s Player of the Week after the opening week of the season. Kappas continues to rack in the weekly accolades throughout her short career thus far, as she was named a Rookie of the Week five times her freshman season in 2016, as well as landing on the Skyline Weekly Honor Roll once.

    The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women’s volleyball team swept visiting Pratt, 3-0, on Monday night in the Mariners’ home-opener at the Liebertz Gymnasium. The scores of the sets were 25-12, 25-14 and 25-15. With the victory, USMMA improves to 2-0 on the season, while the Cannoneers fall to 0-1 to start the year.
  • Football Opens Season With 56-35 Victory Over Misericordia

    The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy football team began the 2017 season off on the right foot with a 56-35 victory over visiting Misericordia University in front of a great crowd at Brooks Stadium during Parents Weekend. The 56 points were the highest point-total for the Mariners in the tenure of Head Coach Mike Toop ’77 – besting last year’s mark of 55 on Homecoming against Rochester – and was also tied for the program’s fifth-most points in a game in Academy history.
  • Mariners Pick Up Great 3-2 Comeback Win At Rutgers-Newark In 2017 Season-Opener

This comes after the Mariners finished the 2016 season as co-Regular Season Champions and reached the finals of the Skyline Tournament.
