    The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy wresting team earned a pair of Centennial victories at a conference tri-match hosted by Gettysburg College on Saturday. The Mariners opened the action with a 35-14 triumph over the host Bullets before defeating McDaniel College, 34-10, in a neutral-site dual. The wins improve USMMA’s record to 5-4 overall, including a 3-0 mark in Centennial action.

The victory improves the Mariners’ record to 5-8 (3-6 Skyline), while FSC falls to 10-7 (8-4 Skyline) in defeat.

The Mariners move to 12-1 (8-1 Skyline) with the win, while the Rams fall to 5-11 (5-6 Skyline).

    On Tuesday morning, the Skyline Conference announced that USMMA freshman Lauren Hunter (Tinley Park, Ill.) was selected as the league’s women’s basketball Rookie of the Week for the week ending Jan. 13. This is the fourth time this season that Hunter has been recognized by the Skyline, as she was Player of the Week on Dec. 3 and Rookie of the Week twice on Dec. 10 and Dec. 17.

    The USMMA wresting team picked up three victories on Saturday at the Mule Duals, hosted by Muhlenberg College in Pennsylvania. The Mariners defeated Lackawanna Community College, 48-0, before breezing past Middlesex C.C., 59-0 and then finally defeating the host Mules, 29-10, in their first Centennial Conference match of the season. With the trio of triumphs, Merchant Marine improves to 3-4 overall in duals (1-0 Centennial).

Additionally, on Tuesday, the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) placed Hunter on its DII-DIII weekly women’s basketball honorable mention list. The praises come after her performances in the Mariners' three victories last week.
