    The USMMA football team defeated Endicott College, 38-22, on Saturday to capture the 2018 New England Bowl. With the win, the Mariners’ second victory in a bowl game in as many years, Merchant Marine has tied the Academy’s single-season program record with eight victories.

    The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams opened the 2018-19 season on Saturday with the USMMA Memorial Invitational, where the Mariners welcomed in Division I Saint Peter’s University, Division II schools Pace University and Adelphi University and Division III Stevens Institute, SUNY Maritime College, the Fashion Institute of Technology women’s team and the NYU diving team.

The accolade comes after Gartner’s performances in the Mariners’ three come-from-behind victories in October.

    The NEWMAC Conference announced this past Monday that USMMA junior return specialist Joe Vitelli (Warrington, Pa.) was selected as the league’s Special Teams Player of the Week after his efforts in the Mariners’ 44-10 road victory at Catholic on Saturday, Nov. 3. This is the third time this season that Vitelli has earned a weekly honor from the conference, as he was also the Special Teams POW on Oct. 9 and the Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 15.

    U.S. Merchant Marine Academy junior goalkeeper Matthew Milner (Mount Airy, Md.) was selected by the Skyline Conference men’s soccer head coaches as the league’s Defensive Player of the Year, the conference announced on Monday with the release of the postseason awards. Milner also joins two other Mariners on the First Team All-Skyline – sophomore midfielder Zach Lysakowski (Reading, Pa.) and senior defender Sam Ney (Vicenza, Italy) – while senior midfielder Joe Springer (Bowie, Md.) landed on the Second Team.

    For the sixth time in program history, and the first time since 1997, the USMMA football team has started the season with a program-best 7-1 record, as the Mariners defeated NEWMAC opponent Catholic, 44-10, on Saturday afternoon down in the nation’s capital. The victory is the Mariners’ fourth-straight and improves their NEWMAC record to 5-1, while the Cardinals suffered their ninth-straight defeat and drop to 0-9 overall (0-6 NEWMAC).
  • King Claims Individual Championship To Lead Mariners At ECAC Meet

    Freshman Robin King (Raymond, Ohio) came in first place at the ECAC Championship Meet on Saturday at the Hudson Valley Sportsdome. She was one of three Mariner freshmen to compete in the race. All three plebes placed in the top-15.
