KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 8, 2019) – On Monday night, the Skyline Conference announced that USMMA junior Matt Mundorf (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) was selected as the league's Baseball Player of the Week, while freshman Garrett Aichele (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) earned Rookie of the Week honors and senior Andrew Spinnenweber (Pasadena, Md.) landed on the weekly honor roll. The accolades come after their performances in the Mariners' five victories last week.
Mundorf led the Mariners with a .550 batting average on the week (11-for-20), with a team-best eight RBIs and tied for the team-high with seven runs scored. On Sunday in the Mariners' home doubleheader sweep of Mount St. Vincent, the junior hit safely in his first six at-bats with a triple and a double. In the first game he was 5-for-5 with a triple and a game-high four RBIs.
Aichele was dealing against Bard on Wednesday with a no-hitter going with two outs in the eighth before it was broken up. He allowed just the one hit, while striking out a career-high 12 over eight innings to move to 2-0 on the season. At the dish, he hit .524 with a double, two RBIs and tied for the team-high with seven runs scored.
Spinnenweber tossed a complete game shutout victory over Purchase on the road on Saturday, allowing just four hits and striking out nine in seven innings. He moved into first place in the Mariners' all-time record book for complete games with the 14th of his career.
