Cunningham Lands On Skyline Baseball Weekly Honor Roll; Tuesday’s Home Game Against CCNY Cancelled

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 23, 2019) – USMMA baseball senior Kyle Cunningham (Panama City Beach, Fla.) earned a spot on the Skyline Conference weekly honor roll for the week ending April 21, the league announced on Monday. The recognition comes after his performances in the Mariners' three victories last week – a 6-5 road win at Staten Island on Wednesday and a doubleheader sweep at Moravian on Saturday. 

Cunningham picked up two saves on the week to bring his total up to 10 on the season. He tossed two innings and gave up one run on two hits with one strikeout. At the dish, Cunningham hit .364 with two doubles and a triple, one RBI and three runs scored. He was also walked twice, to bring his on-base percentage up to .462 for the week, while also stealing a base.

Cunningham currently ranks second in the nation among all DIII pitchers with 10 saves. He's one of six Mariners that rank in the top-25 in the country. Senior Andrew Spinnenweber (Pasadena, Md.) ranks in the top-25 in four categories, as he is sixth with a 0.81 WHIP, seventh with a 1.00 earned runs average, eighth with 13.50 strikeouts per nine innings and 13th with 5.00 hits allowed per nine innings. 

Sophomore Joe Raab (Edwardsburg, Mich.) ranks 16th with 12.55 strikeouts per nine innings, while freshman Garrett Aichele (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) is 18th with five total triples. Senior Jesse Reinebold (Sagamihara, Japan) and sophomore Vincenzo Alteri (Watertown, N.Y.) are both 22nd in the nation with 55 total hits. 

As a team, the Mariners rank in the top-26 in the nation in six categories listed below. 

  • Tied for first in the country with 22 total triples
  • Third in DIII with 0.65 triples per game
  • 20th with 9.0 strikeouts per nine innings
  • 21st with a .332 team batting average
  • 22nd with 81 total stolen bases
  • And 26th with 375 total hits

The Mariners game against CCNY that was rescheduled for Tuesday has been cancelled because the Beavers need to complete their CUNYAC series with Baruch that has been affected inclement weather for two-straight days. USMMA's next scheduled game is this Saturday, April 27, at Skyline opponent St. Joseph's-Brooklyn, beginning at 12-noon at Calvert Vaux Park in Brooklyn, N.Y.
