    USMMA baseball senior Kyle Cunningham (Panama City Beach, Fla.) earned a spot on the Skyline Conference weekly honor roll for the week ending April 21, the league announced on Monday. The recognition comes after his performances in the Mariners’ three victories last week – a 6-5 road win at Staten Island on Wednesday and a doubleheader sweep at Moravian on Saturday.

    On Wednesday night, the USMMA baseball team traveled to the College of Staten Island and narrowly defeated the Dolphins by the final score of 6-5. The victory improves the Mariners’ record to 23-9, while CSI falls to 13-17.

    The Skyline Conference announced on Monday that U.S. Merchant Marine Academy sophomore Andrew Hunt (Severna Park, Md.) was named to the league’s weekly honor roll for baseball for the week ending April 14. The recognition comes after his performances in two of the Mariners’ three wins last week in a 3-2 week for the squad.

    The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy baseball team split its road Skyline Conference doubleheader out at Old Westbury on Sunday, taking the opener, 5-2, before dropping the second game by the final of 7-4. With the split, the Mariners’ record moves to 22-9 (12-4 Skyline), while the Panthers’ record moves to 15-13-1 (10-6 Skyline).

    The USMMA baseball team had its 12-game winning streak snapped after dropping the first game of Saturday’s home Skyline doubleheader to rival SUNY Maritime, 6-3, but the Mariners rebounded to defeat the Privateers, 3-2, in the second game to settle for a split of the twin-bill. Merchant Marine’s record moves to 21-8 (11-3 Skyline), while Maritime moves to 17-13 (8-4 Skyline).

    The USMMA baseball team’s road game at William Paterson on Tuesday featured two lightning delays that totaled 81 minutes and was then called early due to darkness with the Mariners coming out on top of the Pioneers, 6-2, in seven innings. The accolades come after their performances in the Mariners’ five victories last week.

The praise comes after his performances on the mound for the Mariners during the opening month of the season.

    USMMA freshman starting pitcher Garrett Aichele (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) brought a no-hitter into the eighth with two outs before surrendering the first hit of the day to the host Bard College Raptors, but the freshman settled for the victory, his second of the season, in the Mariners’ 16-3 road win on Wednesday. With the “W,” Merchant Marine’s sixth-straight, the Mariners move to 15-7 on the year, while Bard falls to 9-11.

The praise comes after their performances during the Mariners’ 5-0 week last week, including four Skyline wins throughout the weekend.

    The USMMA baseball team closed out the month of March with a pair of Skyline victories over Yeshiva University on Senior Day Sunday at Lower Roosevelt Field. The Mariners won the first game, 29-2, and took the second by the final of 9-1. With the wins, Merchant Marine improves to 14-7 (6-2 Skyline), while the Maccabees fall to 1-15 (0-10 Skyline).

The games were played at the Golden Eagles’ Alfano Field, but the Mariners were the “home team” for both contests. Merchant Marine’s record moves to 9-7 (2-2 Skyline), while SJC’s goes to 7-5 (1-1 Skyline).
  • Spinnenweber Becomes Career Leader In Strikeouts, Flirts With No-No As Mariners Split Skyline Doubleheader At Farmingdale

    Senior Andrew Spinnenweber (Pasadena, Md.) became the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy career leader in strikeouts and he nearly tossed a no-hitter in the second game of the Mariners’ Skyline-opening doubleheader against Farmingdale State on Saturday. The Mariners split the twin-bill with the Rams, winning the first game, 5-2, in 13 innings and dropping the second, 2-1, in nine innings.

    The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy baseball team was recently picked by D3Baseball.com as the favorite to win the Skyline Championship this upcoming 2019 season. This comes a year after the Mariners were one win away from capturing the title, before falling to St. Joseph’s-Long Island in the winner-take-all championship game last spring.
