KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 4, 2017) – The USMMA men's lacrosse team had 14 different players record at least one point in a 20-10 home victory over Skyline Conference opponent Mount St. Vincent on Tuesday night at Brooks Stadium. The win was the Mariners' third-straight, which improves their record to 6-2 (4-1 Skyline), while the Dolphins fall to 1-7 (0-5 Skyline) in defeat.
Sophomore Jack Renard (San Clemente, Calif.) led the way offensively with seven points on four goals and three assists. Junior Nick Treon (Danville, Pa.) recorded six points with four goals and two helpers and senior Dan McGovern (Baltimore, Md.) picked up his first-career hat-trick.
Junior Pat Coll (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and freshman Liam Connors (Bellmore, N.Y.) both found the back of the net twice and five different Mariners had one goal – seniors Chris Whitenack (East Meadow, N.Y.) and Cameron Hallier (Houston, Texas), junior Tucker Dodson (Charleston, S.C.), sophomore Matt Kane (Lewes, Del.) and freshman Mike Morsberger (Catonsville, Md.).
Four other players chipped in with an assist on the day – junior Ryan Sweeney (San Diego, Calif.), and freshmen Ian McClintock (St. Augustine, Fla.), Jackson Misner (Tampa, Fla.) and Nick Roros (Northport, N.Y.).
Whitenack was 15-for-17 from the faceoff-X with a game-high 15 groundballs. McGovern won his only faceoff taken and senior Channing Meyer (Norman, Okla.) was 7-for-10 on draws. As a team, the Mariners picked up 58 groundballs, as freshman Nick Maurer (Longmeadow, Mass.) ranked second on the squad with six, while Misner picked up four with a game-best three caused turnovers.
Senior goalie Dave Ossing (Catonsville, Md.) got the start and made one save over the first half to earn the victory. After halftime, freshman Zac Tilley (Carolina Beach, N.C.) took over between the pipes and he made seven saves over the final 30 minutes to preserve the win.
Mount St. Vincent was led by senior Michael Puchalski, who scored four times and dished out one assist. Sophomore Tyler Porter added three goals and three other Dolphins found the back of the net in the losing effort. In goal, freshman Christian Brody suffered the loss despite making 11 saves in over 38 minutes of action. Junior Frank Bakakos finished the final 22 minutes and made seven saves. Junior Cadeem Jones picked up a team-high six groundballs and classmate James Fitzgerald led the squad with two caused turnovers.
Up next, the Mariners will travel to Skyline Conference opponent Farmingdale State this Saturday, April 8, for a 12-noon start against the Panthers. Live stats for the game will be available at this link.
