Monahan, McMillan & Moore Sweep ECAC DIII Metro Swim & Dive Weekly Awards

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Feb. 9, 2018) – Three members of the USMMA men's swimming & diving team swept the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) DIII Metro weekly honors for the week ending Feb. 4, the league announced on Wednesday. Sophomore Nolan Monahan (Stafford, Va.) was selected as the Swimmer of the Week, freshman Gillem McMillan (Knoxville, Tenn.) earned Diver of the Week accolades and classmate Daniel Moore (Riverview, Fla.) was recognized as the Rookie of the Week. 

For Monahan, this is the second time this season he has earned this distinction (Jan. 10). He led the Merchant Marine with victories in all three of his races at their road loss to #14 Rowan this past Saturday, Feb. 3. Individually, he touched first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:57.58 and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:10.04. The sophomore was also part of the Mariners' 400-yard medley relay team that won the first meet of the day in 3:31.40. 

McMillan earns his fifth Diver of the Week honor from the ECAC this season (Dec. 13, Jan. 10, Jan. 17, Jan. 30). He recorded another NCAA Qualifying Mark for the Mariners on Saturday in the one-meter dive (six dives), as his score of 289.05 was good for third place. The rookie also came in fifth place in the three-meter dive (six dives) with a score of 251.40. 

This is Moore's third time being recognized by the ECAC this season (Jan. 10, Jan. 17). He earned two victories over the weekend. He touched first in the 200-yard freestyle race with a time of 1:45.47 and came in second place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.15. The freshman was also part of the 400-yard medley relay team that started off the meet with a win in 3:31.40.

The Mariner divers will be competing at the NYU Invitational tonight, Friday, Feb. 9, at around 7:30 p.m. (or once the swimming concludes) and then again tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 10 at around 1 p.m. (or once the swimming concludes). A live video feed of the meet will be available at this link
