KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Nov. 16, 2018) – The 2018-19 USMMA men's and women's swimming & diving season begins tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 17, with a home meet – the USMMA Memorial Invitational.
The Mariners will welcome in Division I Saint Peter's University, Division II schools Pace University and Adelphi University and Division III Stevens Institute, SUNY Maritime College, the Fashion Institute of Technology women's team and the NYU diving team. No team scores will be kept at the meet, however the meet will count as the head-to-head Skyline matchup against SUNY Maritime.
Action is set to get underway at 11 a.m. at the O'Hara Hall Pool. A live video feed of the meet will be available at this link.
The full schedules for both the Merchant Marine men's and women's teams are available on USMMASports.com. The Mariner men have a total of 13 scheduled events throughout the next four months with hopes to send swimmers or divers through to two more, the NCAA Diving Regionals and NCAA National Championships in March 2019. On the women's side, there are 11 events before the two NCAA meets.
After the season-opening USMMA Memorial Invite, both teams will travel to Ewing, N.J., the weekend of Nov. 30-Dec. 2 for the TCNJ Invitational. The Mariners return home on Friday, Dec. 7 for a Skyline meet where the men will face Old Westbury and the women host Old Westbury and St. Joseph's-Brooklyn.
The very next day, Saturday, Dec. 8, the squads travel up to Purchase College for another Skyline meet, where they will take on the host Panthers and Sarah Lawrence, with the women also going head-to-head against St. Joseph's-Long Island. That will serve as the final event of the 2018 portion of the schedules.
The men open up the New Year with a challenging head-to-head at Division I Villanova on Saturday, Jan. 5, while the women get their first meet of 2019 in on Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Hunter College in Manhattan. Later that week, the men will host perennial powerhouse NYU on Friday, Jan. 11.
Both teams welcome in Mount St. Mary on Saturday, Jan. 12, for a Skyline meet, before travelling up to New London, Conn., the following Saturday, Jan. 19 to take on arch-rival Coast Guard. The men will then travel to Brooklyn, N.Y., the next day, Sunday, Jan. 20, for a head-to-head against Division I St. Francis College.
The Mariners are scheduled to host the 2018 Skyline Championship Meet on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 25-26, at the O'Hara Hall Pool. The men will be in search of their 21st-straight conference championship, while the women will seek their third-straight Skyline title.
The final dual-meet of the season will be on Saturday, Feb. 2, when the Mariners will host Rowan University on Senior Day.
Both diving teams will travel into Manhattan on Feb. 8-9 to take part in the NYU Invitational with hopes of getting more NCAA qualifying scores.
The 2018 Metropolitan Conference Championship Meet is scheduled for the weekend of Feb. 22-24 at Rutgers University in Piscataway, N.J. That will serve as the final qualifying chance/tune-up before the big NCAA meets in the following weeks.
The NCAA Diving Regional Meet will take place on March 1-2 up at MIT in Cambridge, Mass., and the NCAA National Championships are scheduled for March 20-23 in Greensboro, N.C.
