Pelger & Neumann Lead Mariners Against Coast Guard In Mid-Week Dual Meet

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 5, 2017) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's track & field team lost a head-to-head dual meet to Coast Guard on Wednesday at Brooks Stadium. The Mariners picked up two first-place finishes on the day.
 
Junior Billy Pelger (Rocky River, Ohio) won the shot put event with a toss of 12.20m (40' 0.5"), while classmate Blase Neumann (Spokane, Wash.) came in first place in the pole vault by clearing a height of 4.10m (13' 5.25").
 
USMMA also got second-place finishes in the following events – senior Cameron Green (Lancaster, Calif.) in the 800m (1:59.82), junior Seung Hwang (Wayne, N.J.) in the 110m hurdles (17.10), freshman Rob Beardsley (Bettendorf, Iowa) in the 400m hurdles (1:01.18), the 4x100m relay (45.75) and Hwang in the triple jump (11.70m – 38' 4.75"),

The Mariners return to action this Saturday, April 8, when they travel to Ewing, N.J., to take part in the TCNJ Invite, hosted by The College of New Jersey.
