KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Dec. 4, 2018) – Over the last two days, three different organizations recognized the remarkable week that USMMA women's basketball freshman Lauren Hunter (Tinley Park, Ill.) had last week, as the Skyline Conference selected her as its Player of the Week on Monday, and then on Tuesday the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) named her the DII-DIII WBB Player of the Week and she was also selected to the D3Hoops.com National Team of the Week.
The accolades come after her performances in the Mariners' three road victories last week - a 75-65 non-conference win at Hunter on Tuesday, a 72-49 Skyline victory at Sarah Lawrence on Thursday and a 74-37 non-conference triumph at Medgar Evers on Sunday.
Hunter averaged a double-double over the three games with 27.3 points per game and 14.0 rebounds per game, while also shooting at an incredible 68.6-percent clip from the field (35-for-51). On Tuesday at Hunter, she scored 37 points on 78.9-percent shooting (15-for-19) and brought down 14 boards. The rookie followed that up with a 29-point, 16-rebound performance at Sarah Lawrence on Thursday before finishing the week with 16 points and 12 boards at Medgar Evers on Sunday. She now has four double-doubles throughout the first four games of her career.
The freshman is also ranked very high in multiple categories in the latest national statistical rankings that the NCAA released through games played on Dec. 2. Hunter ranks sixth in the country with 14.3 rebounds per game (second with 6.75 offensive boards per game and 39th with 7.5 defensive rebounds per game), her 23.5 points per game are 10th-best in Division III, her four double-doubles are tied for 12th in the country and her .606 shooting percentage is good for 17th in the nation.
