Hunter Earns Skyline Rookie Of The Week Honors Again; Also Named MBWA Weekly Honorable Mention

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Dec. 17, 2018) – USMMA freshman Lauren Hunter (Tinley Park, Ill.) earned her third-straight weekly recognition from the Skyline Conference, as the league announced on Monday that she was selected as the Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week for the second time in as many weeks. Additionally, on Tuesday, the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) placed Hunter on its DII-DIII weekly women's basketball honorable mention list. The praises come after her performances in the Mariners' three victories last week.

Hunter recorded two more double-doubles for the Mariners in the first two games of the week to bring her season-total to eight. She averaged 18.7 points and 10.7 rebounds over the three games this past week, scoring 22 and bringing down 11 against York at home on Tuesday, draining 19 with 13 boards on Thursday at Yeshiva and finishing the week with a 15-point, eight-rebound effort at home on Sunday against New Rochelle.

The rookie continues to rank in the top-25 among all NCAA DIII players in six categories. She is 13th in the nation with 21.8 points per game, 15th with 12.6 rebounds per game and 10th with 5.0 offensive rebounds per game. Her .596 field-goal percentage is good for 12th in the country, while her 81 total made field goals rank ninth. Finally, her eight double-doubles are tied for fifth among DIII players. 

As a team, the Mariners are among the top-25 in the nation in 10 categories. They are listed below. 

  • Tied for first with 19 other teams with a perfect 1.000 win-percentage
  • Second with 21.0 offensive rebounds per game, 11.8 personal fouls per game and allowing just 43.0 points per game
  • Third with 52.33 rebounds per game and a +20.1 rebound margin
  • Fourth in allowing opponents just a .291 field-goal percentage
  • 20th with a +22.4 scoring margin and 31.0 defensive rebounds per game
  • and 21st for fewest fouls with just 106
