The Mariners finished the regular season with a 12-2 record, including a perfect 7-0 mark in Skyline Conference games to earn the top seed in the Skyline Conference Championship. The Mariners blew past Mount Saint Mary in the semifinals, 16-1 on Wednesday, before winning its first-ever conference title on Saturday by a 13-10 margin over St. Joseph's-L.I.

This will be Merchant Marine's first-ever trip to the NCAA Postseason, and will also be the first-ever meeting between the Mariners and the Avenging Angels. Meredith qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship by way of winning the USA South Conference in a 21-3 win over Piedmont. The Avenging Angels enter Saturday's game with a 15-4 overall record and a 9-0 mark in USA South contests.

This will be Meredith's second trip to the NCAA Division III Championship, having reached back in 2016 and falling by a 12-11 score in the opening round to Cabrini. That matchup also took place at Salisbury.

The Mariners and the Avenging Angels did not have any common opponents this season, while Merchant Marine did not play any team that qualified for the NCAA Championship this season. Meredith competed against two teams that qualified for the Division III Championship; having lost to Catholic on March 8 by a 13-10 score, and falling to Colorado College on April 28 by a 20-18 margin.

Salisbury was ranked third in the nation in the latest IWLCA Coaches Poll, which included one first-place vote on Monday, May 30. The Sea Gulls finished the season 18-1 overall, including an 8-0 margin in the deep Capital Athletic Conference. The Sea Gulls won the CAC automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III Championship with a 12-7 win over Mary Washington.

Both Merchant Marine and Meredith's women's lacrosse program began in 2013. Neither of the two teams has ever faced Salisbury in their brief histories. Salisbury has a rich history in women's lacrosse, winning three of the last eight NCAA Division III Championships, while also appearing in four other National Title games since 2005.
