Korengel’s Win In Three-Meter Dive Highlights Mariners' Day At #24 Rowan

GLASSBORO, N.J. (Feb. 3, 2018) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's swimming & diving team lost on the road to #24 Rowan University on Saturday, 183-57. In defeat, the Mariners fall to 7-1 after their final dual meet of the season, while the Profs improve to 9-2. 

Junior Kara Korengel (Cincinnati, Ohio) had USMMA's lone victory on the afternoon, as she placed first in the three-meter dive with a score of 245.55. She also came in third place in the one-meter dive with a 216.45. 

Two other Mariners had second-place finishes in the meet – sophomore Sara Cosenza (Peoria, Ariz.) came in second in the 1000 freestyle in 12:24.66 and junior Pamela Grod (Northbrook, Ill.) touched second in the 100 free (59.74).

The Mariner divers are set to compete next weekend at the NYU Invitational in Manhattan. Action is set to get underway on Friday, Feb. 9, at the Violets' Palladium Athletic Facility, and will continue on Saturday, Feb. 10.
