KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Nov. 20, 2018) – The Skyline Conference announced the weekly honors for women's swimming & diving on Tuesday morning and two members of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy swim & dive team earned praise for their performances in the season-opening USMMA Memorial Invite this past Saturday. Sophomore Victoria Kirshner (Santa Clarita, Calif.) was named the Skyline Swimmer of the Week, while senior Kara Korengel (Cincinnati, Ohio) earned Diver of the Week honors.
Kirshner recorded a trio of second-place finishes at the Invite on Saturday in the 200 individual medley (2:19.30), the 50 freestyle (25.63) and the 100 butterfly (1:03.03). She finished ahead of Division I and II swimmers in numerous events on the day.
In the very first meet of the season, Korengel hit an NCAA Qualifying Mark in the three-meter board with a score of 271.25. The 2018-19 mark for NCAA qualifications is 265 points. The senior now has to hit the mark in the three-meter dive just one more time to officially qualify for NCAA Regionals in March.
