KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 5, 2017) – On Wednesday, the USMMA women's track & field team hosted arch-rival Coast Guard in a dual meet at Brooks Stadium. Despite losing the meet head-to-head against the Bears, the Mariners saw three Academy outdoor records fall.
Two relay teams set new school-bests, as freshmen Kaleigh D'Arcy (White Plains, N.Y.) and Alexa Vandermeer (Grove Heights, Minn.) along with junior Alex Miller (Stevensville, Mich.) and freshman Anna Lewis (Lakehead, Calif.) made up Merchant Marines' 4x100m and 4x400m teams. To start off the race, the quartet crossed the finish line in 53.71, which beat out a 2013 Mariner squad (54.50) by just under a second. Then to end the meet, the same foursome won the 4x400 relay event with a time of 4:18.94 – besting another 2013 time of 4:20.34.
Individually, freshman Ally McFadyen (Saint James, N.Y.) placed second in the discus event with a new Academy record toss of 36.04m (118' 3"). The previous mark of 34.90m was set back in 2015.
The Mariners had two first-place finishes on the day, the 4x400 relay team and Miller in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.55.
