NEW YORK (Feb. 9, 2018) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's track & field team competed at the NYU Invitational on Friday at the famed Armory Track & Field Center in Manhattan. The Mariners' day was highlighted by the distance medley relay squad setting a new Academy record.
The team of senior Kaylee Kilbert (Canfield, Ohio) (1200m), sophomore Alexa Vandermeer (Grove Heights, Minn.) (400m), senior Alex Miller (Stevensville, Mich.) (800m) and junior Kelsey Ramirez (Stevensville, Mich.) (1600m) crossed the finish line with a time of 13:43.66, which broke the previous record of 14:00.16 set back in 2014 at the Landmark Conference Championships. The squad came in fifth place out of the nine teams in the race.
USMMA had one other top-10 finish on the day, as sophomore thrower Ally McFadyen (Saint James, N.Y.) placed ninth in the weight throw with a toss of 12.29 meters (40' 4.00").
Up next, the Mariners will compete in the St. Joseph's-L.I. Winter Invitational this Sunday, Feb. 11. The event will take place at St. Anthony's High School in South Huntington, N.Y. and will begin at 10 a.m. Live results for the meet will be available at this link.
