    The USMMA men’s soccer team lost at home on Wednesday night to visiting #4/2 Amherst College by the final score of 5-0. The defeat drops the Mariners to .500, as they move to 3-3 on the season, while the Mammoths remain undefeated and improve to 5-0.

    Senior setter Kyleigh Kappas (Parker, Colo.) served up a match-high nine aces to lead the USMMA women’s volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of Yeshiva University Tuesday night in the squad’s Skyline Conference-opener. The final set scores were 25-6, 25-7, and 25-6. With the win, the Mariners improve to 5-5 on the season (1-0 Skyline). The Maccabees are now 0-9 overall (0-4 Skyline).
  • Bucher Selected As Skyline MXC Rookie Of The Week; Shute Lands On Honor Roll

    U.S. Merchant Marine Academy freshman Will Bucher (Carlisle, Pa.) was named the Skyline Conference men’s cross country Rookie of the Week, and sophomore Brennan Shute (Brennan Shute) earned a spot on the weekly honor roll, the conference announced on Monday evening. The praise comes after the duo helped lead the Mariners to a fourth-place team finish at the NYIT Invitational this past Saturday.

    On Monday evening, the Skyline Conference announced the weekly award winners for women’s cross country and USMMA freshman Sayra Raya (Wasco, Calif.) was selected as the league’s Runner of the Week for the second time this season. Additionally, senior Kaleigh D’Arcy (White Plains, N.Y.), who is in her first year running cross country for the Mariners, was chosen as the Rookie of the Week.

  • Volleyball Closes Out Maritime Classic With Straight-Set Win Over SUNY

    The USMMA women's volleyball team blanked SUNY Maritime, 3-0, Sunday afternoon in the finale of the 10th Annual Maritime Classic at the Liebertz Gymnasium. The final set scores were 25-14, 25-8, and 25-22. With the win, the Mariners improved to 4-5 on the season, while the Privateers dropped to 2-7 overall.
  • Women’s Cross Country Places Third At NYIT Invite On Saturday

    Official results came in late Saturday for yesterday’s NYIT Invitational, at which the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women’s cross country team placed third overall out of the 17 teams that scored. The Mariners were also the first place DIII team at the event, and also finished ahead of a couple of Division I and Division II schools as well.

    The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s cross country team came in fourth place at the New York Tech Invitational on an interesting Saturday morning on the campus of NYIT. After being given only 30-minutes notice that the men’s race and women’s race were going to flip-flop start times, the Mariner men started off what was supposed to be an 8K race and had all five of their scorers finish in the top-30.
  • Mariners Split On Day One Of 10th Annual Maritime Classic

    The USMMA women’s volleyball team split matches on day one of the 10th Annual Maritime Classic on Saturday at the Liebertz Gymnasium. The Mariners lost the first match, 3-1, to Maine Maritime, and then swept Massachusetts Maritime, 3-0, in the nightcap. In between the two Merchant Marine matches, Maine Maritime defeated SUNY Maritime in straight sets.

    The Skyline Conference announced the weekly award winners for men’s soccer on Monday and USMMA senior goalkeeper Matthew Milner (Mount Airy, Md.) was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week, while sophomore midfielder David Kelly (Lutherville, Md.) landed on the weekly honor roll. The honors came after the Mariners’ two games last week – a 3-0 road loss at #14 Ramapo on Wednesday and a 2-1 home win over Ithaca on Sunday.

    The USMMA football team lost its home- and season-opening game to visiting FDU-Florham on Saturday by the final of 56-48. The Mariners came back from a 15-point deficit early to take a second-quarter lead, but the two teams went into the halftime break tied at 28. The Devils took went ahead again in the third quarter and thwarted any chance of a comeback for Merchant Marine, holding on for the victory.
  • Kappas Records 2,000th Assist In Mariners’ Road Sweep Of Brooklyn

    Going into Merchant Marine’s road, non-conference tilt at Brooklyn College on Thursday night, senior Kyleigh Kappas (Parker, Colo.) sat at 1,969 career assists. She reached the 2,000-assist plateau late in the third set and finished the night with a match-high 33 helpers in the Mariners’ straight-set victory over the Bulldogs, 25-13, 25-12, 25-14. In victory, USMMA improves to 2-0 on the young season, while Brooklyn falls to 1-2.

    Recent U.S. Merchant Marine Academy graduate and men’s soccer student-athlete Sam Ney ’19 (Vicenza, Italy) was selected by the Skyline Conference executive committee as the league’s 2018-19 Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the conference announced on Thursday. On the women’s side, Samantha Caruso of the St. Joseph’s-L.I. women’s soccer and women’s lacrosse teams brought home the hardware.

    The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women’s volleyball team was picked by the Skyline Conference head coaches as the preseason favorite to win the conference this year, the Skyline announced on Wednesday afternoon. The Mariners received 114 points in the poll as well as six first place votes. 2018 Champion Mount St. Vincent earned 100 points and four first place votes and newcomer to the conference, Manhattanville, garnered 99 points and two first place votes.
  • Cross Country Teams Come In First In Skyline Preseason Polls; 2019 Schedule Available Online

    This morning the Skyline Conference released the preseason coaches poll for men’s and women’s cross country and both Merchant Marine squads were picked by the league’s head coaches as the favorites to repeat as conference champions. The men earned 117 points in the poll with eight first place votes, while the women grabbed 113 points and also garnered eight first place votes.
  • Mariners Picked Third In NEWMAC Preseason Coaches Poll

    The NEWMAC Conference released the Preseason Coaches Poll for football on Monday and USMMA was picked to finish tied for third place with WPI. Springfield College was the coaches’ favorite this year, as the Pride topped the poll and earned six first place votes, while reigning champions MIT came in second, garnering the final two first place votes.
